If the last two weekends are any indication, it would seem that BBQ season is upon us. It's been very warm here in LA and that makes everyone want to char meat in their backyards. Me included.Last weekend, Perry Gallagher called to say he was putting together a last-minute BBQ at his house. He wanted to get some of his photographer friends together and I thought that sounded like a great idea. I always love these informal parties that Perry throws. The chow is usually top notch, and he gets terrific guests too. He grilled up some very tasty tri-tip then informed his son that "these are some of the best photographers in the world". We all waved him off with good humor, but it was a pretty fine crowd; Steve Diet Goedde, Michael Helms, Ed Fox, Eric Kroll, and Victor.
Then, yesterday, I went to another BBQ, this one at Eric Kroll's place. It was the first time I'd been there and let's just say it's a feast for the eyes. Tons of books and photos and stuff to look at everywhere. I found myself wandering around checking everything out. We got there an hour after the official start and were among about a dozen people including Dave Naz and Coop. I made the mistake of asking if I could help and spent the rest of the afternoon manning the barbecues. I still smell like charcoal. LOL. Still, it was nice to see some of the same people who were at Perry's, and to meet other artists and friends of Eric's.
Eric had a piece of performance art going on in his bedroom that involved two naked girls, a film from the 60s, and something to do with Dennis Hopper. I'm afraid I don't know all the details, but it certainly set his party apart from all the others. Heh. Once all the food was cooked, I was too wiped out to continue, so despite my desire to catch up with Beatrice, whom I hadn't seen in a couple of years, I begged off, went home and collapsed.
